Paz’s Blog – 28th June 2010

It’s been an interesting start to the year! I’ve had the task of judging the JDM series, which has been enjoyable but judging such a field of drivers can be very tricky at times as the level is very high! I’ve also been busy working at Driftworks and being part of Phil Morrison’s pit crew. I do enjoy pitting for Phil and Bon though, we have a good laugh at all the events and it’s good to help out where I can.

The BDC round at Lydden Hill was mental – punctures, fires, broken clutches.... it was hard work! However it was good to see Phil smash out some super crazy entries and Bon ripping the track despite having no practice at all!

Then there’s this weekend..... JDM Round 2 Donington Park Alpine.
Great track, VERY demanding and exciting for the drivers and was always set to be impressive and the drivers didn’t disappoint.. Which just makes my job of judging even more difficult, as separating drivers is almost impossible sometimes!

As a judge I get a great view, and knowing all the drivers and their styles personally helps me with this arduous task!

Qualifying saw the usual suspects put on some amazing runs, along with the new polish drivers who were equally impressive, and the top 16 looked very healthy and varied.

Judging the battles is always harder, and the level of driving was so high that some results were decided by mere a steering wheel correction or a slight hesitation of the throttle, barely noticeable under most circumstances.. It’s such a difficult job, I cannot stress this point enough!

As the battles progressed, there was some amazing driving, some very close runs and some equally hairy near misses too! In the end, after some stunning and completely committed driving we had our results.. Fink, Morrison and Chapman took 3rd, 2nd and 1st respectively! Well done guys, you really rocked it, and also make my job as judge SUPER difficult. Thanks.. haha!

Roll on the next Round!

My New Drift Car

I recently picked up an S14 after spending some time in a customer’s S14, it seemed like a good decision for a solid drift base! I’m building up a basic(ish) drift machine with the focus being on driving and seat time, allowing me to practice super close twin drifting and high angle entries. The exterior of the car isn’t of any importance other than having sweet wheels and being gangster low! The basic specification is below:

1996 200SX S14, 18x9.5 Rota GKR's in white, HSD HR Suspension, Tension Rods, Nismo 2 way LSD w/4.3 final gear, Driftworks Geomaster Hubs, Bucket Seat, RSR and Japspeed Exhaust and a few other bits... More to come!

Massive, massive thanks to Driftworks (as always), and Rota Wheels.
