Judging of Round 3 of JDM AllStars, what an eventful day! The main talking point would be the crash involving Luke Fink, Phil Morrison and our own Ben Broke-Smith! Thankfully, no one was hurt! Luke spun out at the end of the course and Ben and Phil couldn’t avoid Luke’s car, and both Driftworks cars piled into each other! The guys did a brilliant job of getting Bens car repaired and back running, which then saw him qualify in 1st place! Luke was also able to qualify, and he placed second right on the tail of Ben! The qualifying panned out as expected with the top spots taken by the usual suspects, which then leads us on to the tricky job of judging the battles!
The battles were interesting and intense, and are always super hard to judge! Again I use my experience of drifting to try and do the best job I can and give the most balanced view possible, calling the runs as I see them and then tallying up my scores with AJ, the other JDM judge to decide on the victor of each battle. It’s tough to please everyone all the time, you may miss the odd little thing but I try 100% to be the best I can, for the sake of the drivers... And with each round I feel I learn a little more as a judge!
The end result was Fink, Calvert and our own Dan Chapman taking 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively! Well done guys!
On the way home from the event I managed to burn through the wiring loom of my S14 while going round a corner, which left me a little stranded at 3am just a few miles from my house! Managed to bodge a quick solution back together and get home, but tomorrow I'll have to pull the wing off and sort it properly.. Cars eh!
