Right, time for an update! So yeah I was invited to a big Euro competition in Belarus called the FX Open, held in the city of Minske at an airport. The trip started with last minute flight, flight changed and all sorts, so me and two other UK guys set off from Gatwick for a nice chilled flight! I pretty much slept the whole flight and woke in a daze in Belarus. Next issue was sorting our visas which became more like a scene out of Benny Hill, running to-and-fro! But we got sorted in the end! Next up was to find our hotel, which was an ex hostel!
So the next morning we found our way to the track which was simple but cool – nice and flowing with a tight end to keep cars close.
Time to skid!! 1st run – full of beans and a safe line, 2nd run wide line, 10 barriers down, I feel awesome haha! So, practice was pretty much like that! Hitting stuff, laughing,...just good times!
Another sleep and now Sunday, time for game face! Bit more practice but aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, issues! Had to take avoiding action as a car span right in front of me causing me to put my car into the barriers, which had been filled with water – needless to say, my driver’s door was no more! All good though as the car still went straight.
Time for qualifying which was ok but I popped a boost hose on the 2nd run which meant shallow angle and only 7th place, lol! Battle 1 was clean and simple, with a nice and safe chase run, and then a full beans Federal tyre smoke lead run to take the battle win! Battle 2 was a little more exciting as I was against a UK driver, but it was pretty simple as he span in front of me! The next battle was for the top 4, and this was a challenge as the dude is awesome. I put in 2 good solid runs but just missed taking the win, sad face, haha! Next up was the battle for 3rd against another awesome driver and again it was a clean chase battle with an easy lead run as a mistake by him handed me the win. Yoooooo 3rd place Dan strikes again!! Haha!
So to sum up, it was an awesome event in a awesome scene and a small trip I won’t ever forget. Now back to the UK to fix the Silvia.
Today I embarked on a nice 4 hour drive to the new home of UK skids. Mallory Park. The track is awesome and the vibe and feel is just what the UK scene needs! There is something for everyone from amateur to pro. I was here for a little bit of teaching and for a social day out which as always I did. My advice to everyone is get ya asses down here and do a skid! Remember DriftTutor is here for all levels of driver and I promise you will be a better driver for it.
Peace.
