Well it’s certainly been eventful for me so far! It would be nice to not have any technical problems and for an event to actually run smoothly for me next time!
JDM Round 1 – I’d just finished the car the night before the event and only managed to have a few laps before big technical problems happened with the car and I was out! Gutted!
BDC – even worse! Before I even got to Lydden Hill I had major problems. Approx 10 miles or so from the track the car stalled at some traffic lights and suddenly smoke was rapidly coming from the diff!! Phil and Paz helped me put out the fire with our fire extinguishers and two bottles of Evian water! We’d managed this just in time as the car had a FULL tank of fuel and the fire had burnt through the fuel lines!
The car had to be abandoned and then I went on to Garage-D to try and get a new differential – no fire was going to stop me competing!
The new diff was simply a standard GTR – but it would have to do! After a huge effort to get it, fit it and get to the track, I’d missed all the practice time for the competition.
Straight into qualifying on a track layout I didn’t know, and with a car that had just been on fire?? Why not?!
I gave it everything and went flat out anyway! I was able to have one practice run before the qualifying runs and after this I managed to qualify in 10th position! Things were starting to look up.
All was going well up until the final 6 – I lost out because I went in a bit too fast with too much grip and ended up having to spin to avoid having a collision. It was fun though!
JDM Round 2 – at this point I was starting to feel a little bit cursed with bad luck as from the moment I turned up there were problems with the car again. I again ended up having to miss the practice session as the whole time I was working on the car trying to get it to work! In all the rush and being so keen to get out on track, when it did come to the qualifying I completely forgot that the judges wanted the drift line to run wide against the wall... I had done my practice run and just two of my qualifiers before the car broke AGAIN and I needed to get back to the pits! Thankfully, I’d managed to pull off enough speed and angle through my runs to qualify anyway!
Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get the car running back up again and that was the end of the competition for me this time! Fingers crossed I’ll actually be able to complete a whole day of competition next week at JDM Round 3!
